Wakefield Wildcats

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats were formed in 1873 by a group of young men from the local Holy Trinity Church hence the name Wakefield Trinity, the Wildcats name was not added until the club entered in to the Super League in 1998. The club purchased Belle Vue in 1879 after playing for a number of years at various other venues around the city. Wakey were also one of the initial 22 clubs that split from the Rugby Football Union in 1895 to form the Northern Rugby Football Union, the prelude to the Rugby Football League as we know it.
